Launching the First Licensed Web3 Game on China’s Trusted Copyright Chain

Published by AVAX on

We’re honored to be the first Licensed Web3 game approved for launch in China. This milestone expands opportunities for players and collectors worldwide while reinforcing our commitment to regulatory compliance and player-owned economies — a major step forward for SHRAPNEL and the industry.

Why this matters:

???? Increased revenue potential to support further game & ecosystem developments, driven by:

1️⃣ Access To The World’s Largest Gaming Market (350M+ PC Gamers)

  • China’s gaming licenses are exceptionally difficult to obtain, especially for blockchain-based games
  • Without it, games are blocked from WeChat, Douyin (TikTok China), Weibo and all major platforms
  • This approval opens the floodgates to China’s massive player base
  • Lingjing People’s Game Labs’ and The Trusted Copyright Chain’s support provide major marketing advantages

2️⃣ Real RMB Trading — A 20-Year First

  • Chinese players can buy, sell and trade Shrapnel items in RMB through the Trusted Copyright Marketplace, bringing something fresh and exciting to them
  • Only one other game (Fantasy Westward Journey) has achieved this level of trading freedom
  • Creates the world’s first true bridge between Web3, real digital ownership and China’s gaming economy

3️⃣ Trusted Copyright and Shrapnel Marketplaces

  • China has its own Trusted Copyright Marketplace, which will feature some exclusive content. Shrapnel Marketplace will also feature some exclusive items
  • Planned future Cross-Chain Bridging between Shrapnel and Trusted Copyright Marketplaces
  • Increased visibility for Shrapnel Official Items
  • All players worldwide play together in the same Shrapnel Ecosystem

4️⃣ Exciting Esports & Tournament Opportunities

  • Shrapnel partnering with over 20 city-based esports clubs in China — founded by the Copyright RWA Chain — to host inter-city tournaments. We’re also planning in-game e-commerce features that let viewers purchase real-world products during matches to support their city’s team, merging fan engagement with commercial innovation.
  • Shrapnel partnering with the Beijing Olympic Committee on making Esports an Olympic event.

For international players, this means:

???? Enhanced game and ecosystem growth fueled by greater revenue opportunities

???? Exclusive Chinese items entering global circulation and vice versa

???? Increased utility for Shrapnel assets and visibility for Shrapnel Game items

???? More players = More diverse competition, livelier economy

???? Increased exposure to Esports/Tournaments for Shrapnel globally via Olympics or intercountry esports events, ie. Esports World Cup.

Please note that these plans are subject to change based on ongoing developments.

Community Q&A:

  1. Why create a separate Chinese chain instead of using AVAX?
This is a partnership with the Trusted Copyright Chain, not a replacement of the Avalanche/Shrapnel ecosystem.
  2. Will this lead to asset inflation with “new” NFTs on the Chinese chain?
The partnership with the Trusted Copyright Chain is designed with economic balance as a priority. Shrapnel will continue to manage and curate the availability of digital items across all supported chains with a focus on long-term stability and sustainability. Any new NFTs associated with this partnership will be limited-edition and thoughtfully integrated. In the future, these game items will be cross-chain bridgeable to and from the Shrapnel Ecosystem, where they will be subject to the same economic controls and standards as all native assets.
  3. Will Chinese players be able to create Callsigns (unique player names) that I’ve already created like “BTC” or “Satoshi”?
Callsigns are unique and can only be minted once across the entire Shrapnel Ecosystem. This means that no two players, whether international or based in China, can share the same callsign, such as “BTC” or “Satoshi” for example. This is the same for all Shrapnel Official Items.
  4. Will SHRAP tokenomics be affected?
The core tokenomics of SHRAP remain unchanged. SHRAP continues to be the primary token driving the Shrapnel economy on Avalanche. This partnership is designed to expand Shrapnel’s global player base while maintaining the integrity of the existing economic model.
The Trusted Copyright Chain operates with separate transaction mechanisms due to regulatory requirements. Chinese players will transact using CNY on the China Copyright Marketplace, in compliance with local regulations. However, digital items acquired through this marketplace may be integrated with the broader Shrapnel ecosystem in the future, potentially increasing engagement with the SHRAP economy without directly altering its tokenomics structure.
  5. Will Neon hire new devs for the Chinese version?
There is not a Chinese version of the game. There is Shrapnel. This is a partnership with China to open a new region for Shrapnel to see a new player base. There may initially be a Chinese Region-specific Launcher for the game, but the launcher itself is the only unique Regionalized part of the Shrapnel Ecosystem to enable a simplified approach to localization.
  6. Could this split resources and harm the original AVAX-based Shrapnel?
Not at all — this partnership is designed to enhance our development capabilities, not detract from them. By leveraging our Chinese partner’s infrastructure and local expertise, we can optimize resources more efficiently while keeping the quality of Shrapnel and the Shrapnel ecosystem as our top priority. In fact, the partnership opportunity will ultimately benefit the entire Shrapnel ecosystem.
  7. Will Chinese players be able to buy/sell existing Shrapnel NFTs (e.g., BTC pistol skins)?
Players that are able to participate in the Shrapnel marketplace today will continue to be able to participate, as they do today. However, with the introduction of this partnership, they will — in the future — have the ability to bridge their owned items out to the Trusted Copyright Marketplace. They will also be able to buy Shrapnel Official items on the Copyright Marketplace and bring them into the Shrapnel Ecosystem to play or trade.
  8. How do you address user data privacy and security concerns?
Neon is a U.S.-based company subject to U.S. data protection laws. All players that choose to engage in certain aspects of our Shrapnel Ecosystem will be required to KYC. Shrapnel will continue to develop the Shrapnel ecosystem in collaboration with various 3rd party partners around the world. Shrapnel and our 3rd party KYC Partner treat player information with absolute privacy and security and maintain best practices to ensure our players data stays as secure as possible.
  9. Does the announcement mean Shrapnel is partially owned by Chinese entities?
It is a partnership and the Chinese government does not have any ownership stake in Shrapnel under the terms of the partnership.
  10. Can non-Chinese players trade with Chinese players, or are markets fully isolated? Can assets moved between the AVAX and the Trusted Copyright Marketplace?
The Shrapnel marketplace will not change in how it works today. Players that can access the Shrapnel Marketplace are able to engage in trade with each other. All Shrapnel Marketplace transactions continue to be conducted in SHRAP. Planned future functionality will allow asset cross-chain bridging to enable trade across different marketplaces; however, the specifics are still under development.
  11. Will existing Shrapnel assets need Chinese government approval to enter their market?
Shrapnel will endeavor to ensure that the items we create are conducive to a global audience. Ultimately, the Chinese government and operators of the Trusted Copyright Chain have final say in what they consider appropriate for their marketplace. The same way that Shrapnel has final say in our own marketplace.

Kindly note, that the outlined plans may be adjusted and are subject to revisions as things progress.

We can’t wait to share more details in the near future as we make progress on this exciting initiative!
