SHRAPNEL 2024 and beyond

A preview of our roadmap

Hard to believe 2024 is half over already! We’ve hit several key milestones and made significant progress. While we are proud of our accomplishments, we’re just getting started and are incredibly excited about everything that’s on the horizon — and believe us, it’s a lot! We also want to thank our community, investors, and partners for their continuous support and the pivotal role they play in our journey!

Here’s a brief recap of some of what we’ve already shipped this year.

  1. Early Access Launch — STX Events & continuous game updates
Tens of thousands of gamers have enjoyed our series of exclusive Early Access events! These limited-time events provide the community an early opportunity to familiarize themselves with SHRAPNEL’s gameplay and provide feedback! We’ve been continuously updating the game, adding new features, fixing bugs and rewarding players with event-exclusive weapon skins, SHRAP rewards, and more. So far, we’ve distributed over 2.3 million SHRAP!
  2. Marketplace Launch
Peer to peer trading of weapon skin fragments and weapon skins is now enabled with a lot more updates and functionalities on the way.
  3. SHRAPNEL Official skins
We’ve launched a variety of exclusive weapon skins that players can equip in-game. These skins can be won as rewards or purchased.
  4. Fragments & Weapon Skin Crafting
Ability to craft exclusive Shrapnel weapon skins by collecting weapon skin fragments and wildcards in-game. We will be expanding the system by introducing new Weapon Skin Fragments and retiring older ones. As a result, the selection of craftable skins will continually evolve.
  5. Fiat Onboarding
Eliminating the friction of exchanges and bridging in, users can now buy SHRAP using their debit and credit cards directly on Shrapnel.com.
  6. Boxed.GG
Users can purchase GEMS with SHRAP on boxed.gg. Boxed.gg provides an exciting way to discover & acquire collectibles (Pokemon, Magic The Gathering, Counter Strike 2 and more)!
  7. METAL & Shrapnel Operations
METAL is an off-chain points system designed to enhance your interaction with the Shrapnel ecosystem (e.g. by participating in Shrapnel Operations — social quests and in-game quests powered by Moku). As you earn more METAL, you will progress through different loyalty tiers, used to determine the amount of future ecosystem rewards you receive. Additionally, you can purchase exciting items from the Shrapnel Shop via Moku using METAL (merch, NFTs from various projects & gaming products coming soon!).
  8. Enlistment
Enlistment enables you to lock your SHRAP tokens on our subnet for a selected period of time and earn METAL in return. While your SHRAP tokens are locked, you won’t be able to withdraw them, but you can still use your SHRAP for buying or crafting skins, trading on our marketplace, and more. The more SHRAP you enlist, the greater your Metal Rewards will be!
  9. The Lunatics
An all-new strategy, rogue-like auto-battler game, exclusively available on Discord. 2 game modes (PvP, PvE), 3 difficulty levels, winners are rewarded with METAL & Play Credits
  10. Hyperplay
A web3-native game store providing a new distribution channel for our game and discoverability in the MetaMask games directory.
  11. Partnership & Commemorative Skins — airdropped to Operator holders and partner communities
We’ve teamed up with Avalanche, NeoTokyo, Gam3s.gg, SuperVerse, The BoDoggos, and Alchemy to bring you exciting weapon skins. A lot more exciting collabs and unique skins are on the way — stay tuned! We’ve also introduced Bitcoin-themed shotgun and pistol skins, and we’ll continue celebrating various events and regions with exclusives!
  12. Basic Extraction Pack
We’ve made early access even more accessible by launching the Basic Extraction Pack! For $9.99 you’ll receive Early Access to the game, 1 playable MEF Operator and 1 Gear Pack. You’ll also have the chance to win event-exclusive skins, SHRAP rewards and more for successfully completing missions during Early Access!

Here’s a brief overview of what we can share about the exciting developments coming later this year.

Please note that the information below, including details, features, and timelines, is subject to change.

  1. Game Updates
Continued improvements to locomotion, hit registration, combat and more
  2. Persistent inventory
Persistent Inventory allows players to keep any loot they successfully extract (e.g., attachments, weapons), and use it to strategically build their future custom loadouts. I.e. gear obtained in one session can be carried over to subsequent sessions, enabling players to continuously enhance and expand their loadouts with items they’ve accumulated in their inventory.
  3. Art Updates
More high-fidelity sections within the map; Weather & Fog Variability keep the Sacrifice Zone fresh and unpredictable
  4. New Gear
New weapons (New longer range weapons like the DMR, new sidearms such as the Revolver)
New attachments, a major update to the Sigma Grenade, Trauma Kit
  5. New Sigma Ability & Sigma Power Curves
    Sigma Dash
     — New Sigma ability that allows players to rapidly move through space. Players will have multiple dashes to use, especially at higher tiers, so they can use it to their advantage. Dashing into players functions as a kind of melee attack as well.
Sigma Power Curves — Players get passive buffs based on how much sigma they’re carrying (improved locomotion and durability)
  6. In-Game Operators
Players will be able to choose which in-game operator they want to use when entering the Zone and will be able to collect various operators by purchasing them from the marketplace, or by redeeming them as part of their extraction pack rewards. Each operator will come with a core trait and a default perk upon initial release. Additional features such as Operator Progression, Customisation, and peer-to-peer trading of Operators will be introduced next year.
Traits — Traits alter the odds of the Operator being offered a given category of perks on level up. Traits can either increase or decrease the odds for a given perk category. Traits, like perks, can have differing weightings to be more or less common.
Perks — Each time an Operator levels up, the player is shown a random pair of perks they could select. Perks can be selected multiple times, with their numeric effects scaling with each time they’re chosen, up to a cap. E.g.: health perks, Sigma perks, movement perks, etc.
  7. Valdacha Depot
A place where players can purchase/redeem/claim various items for their persistent inventory and use in their custom loadouts, i.e. enables players to resupply gear (consumables, weapons) without the need to source in-session. Players can also use Sigma to acquire gear in the Vadlacha Depot.
  8. Weapon Charms
A tradable decorative item that can be attached to the weapon, allowing players to personalize their weapons.
  9. Sigma Skins
Sigma Skins will be a secondary ‘class’ of skins which are super rare, ‘collectible’ skins — distinct from the regular skin economy and market, and which grant unique rewards to holders.
To preserve rarity, these skins will have limited supply, limited timeframes for acquisition, and only be obtainable through limited methods.
The BTC-inspired pistol and shotgun skins will be classified as Sigma Skins.
  10. The Printer & Schematics
Players acquire schematics by purchasing them from the marketplace, earning them by completing missions, finding them in-world or as rewards associated with progression or social engagements. This new system replaces fixed skin rewards for completing STX missions. A Schematic is inserted into a 3D printing machine which destroys the schematic and turns it into an item. Items can range from weapon skins to weapon charms & more as the game advances (eventually also SHRAP). Schematics are tokenized, tradeable, and come in different qualities.
  11. Improved Anti-Cheat Mechanisms and Policies
We are continually analyzing and refining our Anti-Cheat mechanisms to enhance their effectiveness. We understand that our game revolves around PVP resource extraction, and are committed to maintaining a fair and enjoyable environment for all players. All reports and instances of cheating are forwarded to our anti-cheat partners for thorough evaluation and improvement of our anti-cheat processes and software. Cheating is in direct violation of our terms of service (https://shrapnel.com/terms-of-use) as it causes unfair advantages. Any players found to be violating our Terms of Use will be considered for a permanent ban.
  12. Callsign Trading
Ability to trade your unique on-chain gamer tag on the marketplace.
  13. Valdacha Recycling Center (Blender)
Allows players to recycle items from their inventory. The type, quantity and exclusivity of the loot they obtain in exchange will be based on the items they burn/blend. Special loot will be added to the drop table when a player blends specific items, rewarding players for treasure hunting and experimenting with the Blender.
  14. Comic Books Vol 2
Six new stories of life after Earthfall. Violence and drama combine to expand the world of Shrapnel. Physical copies of Vol 1 & 2 are available for pre-order at https://www.metalxentertainment.com/shrapnel

Curious to find out what else we’re working on? Here’s a little sneak peek.

  • Controller Support
  • Duos — Ability to party up with a friend and play together! Duos will allow players to use EGS friends lists to create squads. So you’ll invite friends from your EGS friends list or if you don’t have any friends to play with you can enter matchmaking and we’ll pair you up with someone.
  • A TON of game updates (proximity-based voice chat, new attachments, weapons, throwables, new Sigma abilities, wearables, and a whole lot more)
  • Always-On Early Access: 24/7 access, no server shutdowns except for maintenance
  • Operator Progression
Operators will be accompanied by a rich progression system allowing players to specialize and develop their Operator depending on their preferred playstyle.
As players level up their operators, they can pick different perks which impact their health, movement, and more! Operator traits alter the odds of the Operator being offered a given category of perks on level up.
The progression of perks includes a degree of randomness, which incentivizes players to level up multiple Operators. This element encourages interesting decisions and occasional mistakes, making the progression of Operators both exciting and balanced.
  • Operator Customization
  • Safehouses
  • Battle Passes
  • Referral System
We will release a player referral portal, where any player can earn exclusive in-game items when they invite friends to engage with Shrapnel’s ecosystem. We will also create a creator program through which high-quality content creators can become verified ambassadors, earning commissions from the store and receiving advanced rewards for onboarding players from their audience.
  • Competitive Gaming
Once the always-on phase begins, we will organize offline competitive events in major cities worldwide. We will also collaborate with guilds, esports teams, and NFT communities to release co-branded skins.

We are thrilled about what’s to come and can’t wait to share more details with you! In the meantime, we’d love to hear your thoughts! Please share what excites you, what sparks your curiosity, and any other feedback that will help us make Shrapnel the best it can possibly be, as we shape its future together!

Lastly, be sure to join our early access events. We’ll see you in the Sacrifice Zone!
